On Tuesday 6th June a selection of Year 7 & 8 Students from Ashton Park School attended the Bristol Festival of Sport held at Coombe Dingle sport complex. The event was hosted by the University of Bristol and their sporting teams and coaches which allowed students to be expertly taught new skills in a vast variety of sports. On arrival at Coombe Dingle, the Ashton students were placed into groups and given their ‘Team Ashton Park’ T-shirts. Following this, they were then mixed with students from other schools as the festival was not only about sport but also about building new friendships and teamwork skills.
There was a wide selection of sports available for our students to take part in including, Lacrosse, American Football, Ultimate Frisbee, Boxing, Rugby amongst many others. The groups would have around an hour on each activity before moving onto the next. The Ashton Students had to brave the elements and the lashings of wind and rain keeping their focus and picking up new skills as well as some new friends along the way. The students had a great experience and had a great insight into the wider variety of sports there are available to them.
For the duration, the 71 Ashton Park pupils were fantastically behaved, fully engaged and a credit to themselves and our school. It was a pleasure to have taken them and see them have so much fun.
