Year 7 fundraising for Children in need

On Friday, Year 7 were raising money for children in need.

From a fantastic Science related tutor time fundraising activity in 7IK to lots of very silent pupils, it was a brilliant day!

To top it all off we had a bake sale at lunchtime and the amount of donations we had were fantastic. Some beautifully created bakes.

It was so nice to see how involved the year group was. Pupils have until Wednesday morning to hand in their donations, keep an eye out for our total raised!

Ashton Park Year 7 boys win Bristol Schools football tournament.

Congratulations to the Year 7 boys who were crowned Bristol schools 5-a-side football champions at South Bristol Sports centre on Wednesday 6th March.

The boys played some excellent football throughout the group before progressed on to the semi finals where they beat St. Bede’s 5-0. In the final, the boys continued to play quick, possession based football earning a 4-0 victory against St. Mary Redcliffe in the final.

Well done to Charlie, Tom, Billy, Ben, Louie and Louis on this fantastic achievement, and for being superb representatives of Ashton Park school!

Mr. Poole.

Hot Chocolate with the Head

Students in Year 7 have recently completed their English Independent Learning Challenge – creating a diorama based on their class reader.  Mr John and Miss Twist spent a couple of mornings touring tutor groups and judging some fabulous entries.  They were really pleased with the creative and interpretative efforts of the students when producing their dioramas.
There were two overall winners, as well as a winner for each tutor group.  These students started their day with a hot chocolate with Mr John while discussing their ILCs.  Certificates will be distributed to a number of students during an assembly on Monday as we celebrate some excellent work.  7TL will also be commended for producing some of the best ILCs in the year group.
Well done everyone!  A fantastic effort from the year group.

Year 7 win Rugby festival.

On Wednesday 26th September, Year 7 took part in their first sporting competition since joining Ashton Park school. 13 students travelled to Old Reds RFC and played in 6 games against other Bristol secondary schools.

After five games and five victories, Ashton Park faced Bedminster down in a fixture to decide who would finish as overall winners. After conceding early on, Ashton Park rallied together to fight back and take victory and remain undefeated!

Congratulations to the students involved. Year 7 Rugby training takes place Wednesday’s 3:15pm-4:30pm.

“Year 6 Transition News!”

Get involved with the fabulous summer activities going on at the SS Great Britain. Always well attended, always lots of fun!

Year 7 3D Fish Homework Winners

During Term 3 all year 7 students were asked to make a 3D fish at home. We had some very creative and original designs, which made it particularly difficult to choose a winner from each class. Well done to everyone involved.

Bronze medals for Year 7 Boys!

Congratulations to the Year 7 Boys Team for their Bronze medal winning performance at the Inter County Athletics Finals.  Competing against 7 teams from Bath, Somerset, South Gloucester and Bristol the boys produced some fantastic individual and team performances. With only 5 points separating 1st and 3rd the boys proved they are able to perform at the highest level and can now look forward to the outdoor athletics season during the summer term.
Well done Malith, Finn, Malachi, Fred, Cameron and Alvaro!

Parents’ Evening Booking

This year we are launching a new service to make Parents’ Evenings easier to deal with. The Parents’ Evening Booking system is a website which helps schools save money and time by allowing parents to make their own bookings. You can make bookings online via the Parents’ Evening Booking system website, on your computer, smartphone or tablet, alleviating almost all of the time dedicated to parents’ evenings by teachers and staff at the school. We can of course help parents who do not have internet access and you can still book appointments by contacting the school or asking your child to visit the IT Support Office to make appointments.

Whilst you may have received a username and login for the system you may not be able to book an appointment for your child until bookings for a Parents’ Evening have been released. Bookings will open for each Parents’ Evening around two weeks before the evening of the parents evening.

Parents Evening Dates 2017/2018

  • Post 16 – 25th January 2018
  • Year 11 – 22nd February 2018
  • Year 10 – 8th March 2018
  • Year 9 – 1st February 2018
  • Year 8 – 14th June 2018
  • Year 7 – 28th June 2018

Instructions

  1. Navigate to the Parents’ Evening Booking System here.
  2. Use the Username and Password that was provided to you by email. If you have not received an email please contact the school to provide one.
  3. Log in by selecting which child you want to make bookings for first. If you have more than one child who requires bookings, you can switch between them once you are logged in.
  4. Once logged in, decide whether you need to make bookings individually, or using our Automated Booking Wizard (best if you have a number of bookings and students to make bookings for).
  5. Once you have selected your preferred booking method and once in the correct parents’ evening, follow the relevant instructions from below:
    1. Automated Booking Wizard:
      1. Select the teacher you wish to book. You can press ‘Select All’ to select all options
      2. If you have a second child to make bookings for then select their tab and repeat the teacher selecting process
      3. Proceed to the bottom of the page and specify your personal availability, then press Make My Bookings For Me
        1. If the wizard replies that bookings are not feasible, you have not left enough time and need tp reduce the number of teachers or increase the amount of time you’re available.
      4. Now see a list of your booking suggestions. Feel free to add comments to teachers you wish to book, if allowed
      5. Press Confirm to confirm these appointments as your bookings
      6. Press Print or E-Mail to initiate your confirmation.
    2. Individual Bookings:
      1. Scroll down until you see the booking table. Above it are the departments and teachers which are available to you.
      2. Select the department, then teacher, and click on an available time to make a booking. When you selected a time, you’re able to add any issues or comments for the teacher to take note of before the appointment.
      3. Repeat this process, making bookings for all of the teachers you need to.
      4. If you need to cancel or rearrange an appointment, click on the correct department and teacher, then click on the green appointment to change it.
      5. If you need to make bookings for another child, scroll to the top of the page. In the top left corner you should see a ‘Make a Booking for Another Child’ icon. Click this. If there is no icon, the software does not recognise that you have multiple children. This just means that you’ll need to log out and log back in again using the other child’s details.
      6. Once you have made all of your bookings, click on either E-Mail or Print my Appointments. Appointments are saved when they are made, so you don’t have to e-mail or print to ‘save’ them, but doing so will provide a confirmation with further information, possibly including rooms and instructions from the school.

To provide further help in logging on or how to use the system the following videos may be of use.

Fun into Food!

In a special Fun into Food event year 7 and year 8 saw 2 teams compete to be crowned Top Chefs in our own Ready, Steady, Cook! The Green Kitchen produced a gorgeous vegetarian curry while the Red Kitchen produced Thai fishcakes. The smells across the hall were amazing! In between the cooking demos year groups were taught about how to make healthy food choices to make sure they have a balanced diet.
After an expert tasting panel of students had savoured each of the offerings the winners were crowned. During the year 8 competition Ms Sharma led the Red Kitchen to victory over Mr Poole’s Green Kitchen. In year 7 Miss Johnstone’s team snuck into the lead over Mrs Keough.

The event was put on by Chartwells who provide our catering services here in school. Thank you for coming to visit us!
