Community Spirit making things run smoothly!

Ashton Park School hosted the County Primary Cross Country event on Saturday 24th November. Organised by our School Sport Partnership, 260 youngsters braved the wind and the rain to run for medals and to do their personal best for their team.
Our fantastic leaders across all year groups gave up their Saturday morning to assist at the event. The early morning start and poor weather didn’t dampen their enthusiasm and willingness to act as race officials, marshals and presenters of medals. It was fantastic to see them encouraging all the children and even running alongside some of the tail-enders!
The Ashton Park Parental Hub joined in the fun and made a great profit of £300 selling hot food and scrummy cakes to hungry athletes and supporters. Their brilliant effort and hard work will contribute towards the stage lighting fund for the school hall. Well done to Sally, Cathy and the team!!
The Bristol and West Athletics Club also made a great contribution with their time, loan of equipment to mark out the course and their expertise in collating the results.
All in all a wonderfully organised event for the best young runners from South Bristol, North Bristol, Central and East Bristol, North Somerset and South Glos. It just shows what the power of community spirit can achieve!
A big Thank you from The School Sport Partnership to all who made the event such a great success!
