Twenty-one Year 12 students have been taking part in the Future Quest Widening Participation Scheme in association with South Bristol Youth and UWE. The programme is a series of workshops, activities and events designed to give young people from low university-participation areas of Bristol an opportunity to better understand higher education opportunities.
So far, our FQ students have attended the Launch Event at UWE, in which they had an opportunity to explore student accommodation and talk to current undergraduates.
They then attended HE Experience Day Part 1 at UWE, in which they took part in lectures and workshops exploring student life. They were guided through the day by current UWE and Bristol University students, giving them a chance to gain an insider’s perspective on being a university student.
In January the FQ students attended the Profiling Day at Bristol Rovers Conference Suite. The students completed a series of psychometric tests with people development company Insights. On the profiling day the students received a personalised profile from Insights, exploring their strengths and abilities, and then completed a series of workshops based on their profiles.
Last week, they attended HE Experience Day Part 2 which explored aspects of student life beyond academic study. They attended workshops with university lecturers, ambassadors & society members exploring budgeting, nutrition, personal & online safety, vlogging and online networking.
The Future Quest programme will continue throughout the year with further exciting events and opportunities.
