Why study Sport?

By studying a Level 3 programme in Sport you will develop knowledge, understanding and skills required by employers and apply them in real work contexts

Sport is a massive industry with so many job opportunities which are continually expanding and developing.

Here are some examples of money that is invested in sport:

Over £264 million of National Lottery, Exchequer and Team 2012 funding UK Sport was invested in Olympic sports during the London Olympiad (2009-13); Every one pound awarded by the Football Foundation generates £7.73 to the wider UK economy. This figure will keep on rising with the continued media interest in all forms of sport. In 2012 sport dominated the list of most watched television programmes. 20 million people watched Usain Bolt win the Olympic 100 metres in London. Don’t miss out on being a part of this dynamic industry!

What’s it all about?

The Pearson BTEC courses are nationally recognised qualifications, which are recognised by employers and higher education institutions.

Year 12 Foundation Diploma

This course comprises 7 units which will cover a variety of topic areas within the sports industry, these will include Anatomy and Physiology, Fitness and Training Programmes, Coaching and Leadership within Sport

You will also have the opportunity to gain some NGB awards, develop your confidence through the Community Sports Leaders Award and participate in some relevant sports courses e.g. first aid.

In year 13 you have 2 choices:

1. Diploma in Performance Excellence

You will study 4 units which focus on coaching and performance profiling of an athlete

You will then use your time to gain some work experience in the sports industry or continue to build up your portfolio of NGB courses.

2. Extended Diploma

You will study 8 units which will focus on coaching and performance profiling of an athlete, as well as looking at the Management of Sport and how to recruit and develop teams.

When will I be assessed?

Your work will be assessed through a controlled assessment, a written exam and ongoing assignment
